Nestled in the bustling heart of Da’an District, at Section 3 of Zhongxiao E Rd, this cozy yet sophisticated restaurant invites guests to enjoy traditional dishes with a modern twist.

Located on the fourth floor at 268號, this restaurant effortlessly blends the elegance of Japanese gastronomy with the warm, welcoming atmosphere of a family-owned eatery. The moment you walk in, the tranquil setting instantly sets the mood for a memorable meal. It’s clear that great care has been taken to create a space that feels authentic yet modern. The minimalist decor, inspired by Japanese culture, makes for a calm, peaceful dining environment that complements the delicious food.

One of the standout features of Nihombashi Tamai is its extensive menu, which reflects a deep respect for Japanese culinary traditions. With a variety of dishes ranging from delicate sushi and sashimi to heartier fare like tempura and grilled meats, every plate is crafted with precision. Each dish bursts with fresh ingredients, some flown in directly from Japan, ensuring that every bite is as authentic as possible.

A popular choice on the menu is their sushi, known for its melt-in-your-mouth texture and expertly balanced flavors. The chefs use only the finest fish, often sourced from trusted Japanese suppliers, which gives the sushi a rich, fresh taste you won’t easily find elsewhere in Taipei. Alongside sushi, the sashimi selection also impresses, featuring a variety of fish that are prepared to highlight their natural flavors, served with fresh wasabi and pickled ginger.

For those who prefer cooked dishes, Nihombashi Tamai offers a selection of beautifully executed options like their signature wagyu beef dishes. The tender, marbled beef is a must-try, grilled to perfection and paired with a rich soy-based sauce that elevates the flavors. Tempura lovers will also be delighted by the perfectly crispy, light batter that enrobes shrimp and seasonal vegetables. It's clear that the chefs here understand the art of deep frying, ensuring that each piece of tempura remains crunchy and delicious without being too greasy.

Not to be overlooked is the restaurant's presentation. The attention to detail in the plating is a reflection of the artistry inherent in Japanese cuisine. Each dish arrives at the table looking like a work of art, beautifully arranged with vibrant colors and fresh garnishes that make the entire meal a visual and sensory delight.

What makes Nihombashi Tamai stand out from other dining options in Taipei is not just the food, but the level of care and personal touch that goes into every service. • My sister in law raves about the only Nihonbashi in Taiwan. We finally went this past summer and had a wonderful time getting to know the owner, the food and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. They even threw in a appetizer and dessert for us. The owner is a soft spoken man but very eager to speak to us since we have mutual acquaintances. I wish the place wasn't in a busy dept store but I'm sure the foot traffic is great. They used to have a stand alone shop which I'm sure would've been better.

  • Came here because it was mentioned by Michelin. The restaurant has a comfortable, clean decor and service was very good. Ordered eel and sushi. The eel over rice and eel sushi tasted reasonably good and of good quality, though not outstanding. I think the grilling was too light to get the full flavor out. The raw fish sushi, on the other hand was so so, sushi rice was too dry and hard, lacked that vinegar taste and the raw fish lacked that natural sweetness.

  • A bit pricy and need reservation. Understandable since it’s a Michelin restaurant. The unagi is soft and tender. Taste and demonstration is good. They have lunch set around 330ntd and enough for my lunch. Take out 1 star because its well known for leaving more bones in the eels compared to other restaurants. I didn’t feel that but my friend took out many bones in her eel.

  • Food is awesome and has good portion. The waitress is kinda overwhelmed so there is longer wait time between each dish.

  • Nihombashi Tamai makes a delicious anago don, which is different from the more commonly seen unagi. The texture is softer and more tender, and the small bones are easy to eat. We also ordered the sashimi don, which was very fresh, but I still think the anago don is the standout dish. It's also worth mentioning that the rice in their anago don is flavored with shiso leaves, adding a nice aroma. However, this might not be suitable for children who do not like the taste of shiso.

  • My family and I went to Nihombashi Tamai for lunch today. The food is delicious. We went there without a reservation and needed to wait about 20 minutes before we could eat (it gave us a chance to shop around in the shopping center) Would I eat there again ? Absolutely !!! I loved the Anago (salt water eel)

  • Went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a Taiwanese. It is very generous with its portion, with the unagi filling up the whole square rice box, hiding the rice below. It also comes with a few different spices, namely yuzu, and some stronger spice. The waitress will tell you to try the original taste, before moving to the yuzu and stronger tasting spice. The unagi, despite being grilled, does not really have the charred taste and feel and might not be something that people familiar other unagi don in Japan might like. This restaurant does not come with an English menu
